Here’s a prayer to make yourself available to God—and therefore others—in everyday encounters and “coincidences.” You never know when your number will come up after somebody prays for help.
Lord, Make Me a Channel of Your Grace
How much help does God “need”? Probably not much. (That would be a matter of theological speculation.) Still, he seems happy to accept all the help he can get. God constantly works through people to accomplish his sometimes inscrutable purposes. Use this prayer to help put you at Heaven’s disposal:
O LORD GOD, please place me where you want me to be, introduce me to the people you want me to meet, and otherwise direct my actions so that I may always be available to you—and others—as a channel of your grace. Amen.
Vicarious Prayer
Some people are unable to pray for a variety of reasons. Infants are too young to be articulate. Others are unconscious, suffering from dementia, or otherwise too ill to pray. Still others are distracted by worldly concerns and forgetful. And so we offer prayers in their stead. For example:
O ALMIGHTY GOD, for all those who will offer up no prayers today and especially those who are unable to pray, please allow me/us to say, "Our Father, which art in heaven..."
